DCAEYC to Join DC Action, Under 3 DC, and Community Partners at the Wilson Building on June 9

On Tuesday, June 9, DCAEYC will be at the John A. Wilson Building alongside DC Action, Under 3 DC, and community partners as the DC Council is expected to take its first vote on the Fiscal Year 2027 budget.

This vote will have a direct impact on children, families, early learning programs, early childhood education professionals, and essential services across the District. Unless the Council acts to raise revenue and reverse proposed cuts, programs that many DC residents depend on could face serious harm, including early learning, paid family and medical leave, health care, housing assistance, TANF, and other critical supports for children, youth, and families. DCAEYC is calling on members to stand with us during this important day of action. Participants will gather in the main lobby before visiting Councilmember offices, then move to Hearing Room 500 when the legislative session begins at noon.

No advocacy experience is required. Participants will be supported throughout the process with background information, talking points, and guidance. Coffee and snacks will be available in the morning, with lunch provided in the afternoon.

The message to Council is clear: DC’s budget should reflect the needs of children, families, and communities. Strong public investment in early learning and essential services helps families remain stable, supports the professionals who serve them, and strengthens the District as a whole.

For members who are not able to attend in person, there is still an important role to play. DCAEYC encourages early childhood education supporters to contact DC Councilmembers by email and phone and urge them to protect strong funding for early learning, children, families, and the early childhood education professionals who serve them.
