DCAEYC Launches Teacher Professional Development Series with a Focus on Classroom Environments

DCAEYC welcomed members on October 22 for the first session of its Teacher Professional Development Series, a four-part learning opportunity dedicated to strengthening classroom practices and supporting early childhood education professionals across Washington, DC.
Led by Judi Sperber, a lifelong educator with more than 30 years of experience with the Reggio Emilia philosophy, the opening session, Environment as Your Third Teacher. Really!, focused on the important role classroom environments play in children's learning, engagement, and daily experiences.
The workshop explored how classroom spaces, materials, schedules, transitions, and routines can be approached more intentionally to support both children and educators. The session's focus encouraged participants to consider how thoughtful adjustments to their learning environments can promote children's independence, agency, and participation.
This members-only professional development series reflects DCAEYC's continued commitment to providing meaningful learning opportunities that support educators in their daily work.
Three more sessions are scheduled, covering Our Image of the Child on November 5, Observation and Reflection as a Tool on December 3, and Intelligent Materials on January 14. Each session offers 1.5 clock hours, with registration limited to 12 DCAEYC members.
Interested in joining an upcoming session? Registration is open for the remaining workshops, and each session requires a separate registration.
