Join DCAEYC and Community Partners at the Wilson Building on June 18

On Wednesday, June 18, DCAEYC will join DC Action, community organizations, unions, advocates, and early childhood education partners at the John A. Wilson Building during the DC Council’s review of the proposed FY26 budget.

Mayor Bowser’s proposed spending plan includes cuts that could have serious consequences for early childhood education in Washington, DC. The proposal threatens families’ access to affordable early learning programs, puts early educators’ living wages and health care at risk, and could eventually lead to waitlists for families seeking subsidy support.

These decisions directly affect children, families, educators, and programs across the District. Stable public investment is essential to keeping early learning accessible, supporting the workforce, and ensuring that young children have the quality learning environments they need.

The day will begin with an 8:30 AM rally outside the Wilson Building, where advocates will call on the DC Council to reject harmful cuts and protect the systems families and educators rely on. At 10:00 AM, participants are invited to move inside the building to support immigrant communities during the hearing.
