Directors’ Nook Kicks Off New Leadership Series

Yesterday, early childhood leaders from across DC came together for the first session of DCAEYC’s Directors’ Nook Leadership Series: Leading Through Complexity and Change.

The session opened a powerful conversation about the realities of leadership in early childhood education today, balancing mission and sustainability while navigating shifting funding, workforce shortages, and evolving regulations.

Through open dialogue, directors shared strategies for leading with both heart and strategy, strengthening transparency and trust within their teams, and engaging families as active partners in advocacy and program success. The discussion highlighted how data-driven decision-making, collective mobilization, and clear communication can drive change even in moments of uncertainty.

Participants also reflected on the importance of connecting with one another, recognizing that leadership can feel isolating, but community support creates the foundation for resilience and innovation.

This first session set the tone for a meaningful series focused on collaboration, learning, and shared purpose.

The Directors’ Nook Leadership Series continues on Tuesday, December 9, with Session 2: Building and Retaining a Solid Workforce, an in-person gathering designed to explore recruitment, retention, and staff wellness strategies that sustain high-quality programs.

Each session takes place from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the DCAEYC Office. Lunch is provided, and RSVP is required.

Together, we’re building a stronger community of early childhood leaders:

connected, informed, and ready to lead through change.
