DCAEYC to Join the Final Wednesday Walkaround Before the DC Council’s Final Budget Vote

DCAEYC will join early childhood education professionals, directors, families, partners, and community allies on Wednesday, June 17, for the Final Wednesday Walkaround at the John A. Wilson Building.

This action comes at an important point in the District’s budget process. It is the final walkaround before the DC Council’s final budget vote, and advocates are continuing to call on the Council to secure the final $2 million needed to fully sustain the Early Childhood Educator Pay Equity Fund.

During the first budget vote, the Council restored a significant portion of funding for early learning. However, this remaining $2 million is still needed to protect the progress made through the Pay Equity Fund and support the early childhood education professionals who serve DC’s children and families every day.

The Pay Equity Fund has helped strengthen wages, support workforce stability, and recognize early childhood education professionals as essential members of the District’s education system. Fully sustaining this investment is critical for programs, educators, families, and the future of early learning in Washington, DC.

Participants will receive support, materials, and guidance before meeting with Council offices. No advocacy experience is required.
