DCAEYC Encourages Community Members to Share Their Head Start Stories

Head Start has played a significant role in the lives of children, families, educators, and communities across the country. As discussions continue about the future of the program, organizations and advocates are working to ensure that people with direct experience of Head Start are part of that conversation.

DCAEYC is supporting that effort by encouraging members of our community to share how Head Start has influenced their lives, families, programs, or communities.

Start Early is currently collecting personal Head Start stories from families, educators, alumni, and community members. The initiative is intended to document the experiences of people who know the program firsthand and bring those perspectives into ongoing advocacy efforts.

For many communities, Head Start is more than a federal program. Its impact is reflected in the experiences of children who participated, families who received support, educators who worked within Head Start programs, and communities that have relied on its services over time. Sharing those experiences can provide a clearer picture of what the program has meant at the local level.

DCAEYC encourages anyone with a connection to Head Start to consider contributing a story. Members are also encouraged to share this opportunity with parents, caregivers, educators, alumni, and others throughout their programs and professional networks.
